Easter in San Francisco is celebrated quite a bit differently than any other part of the country. Sure, there are traditional holiday festivities to partake in but the crowning jewel of SF’s left-of-center Easter Sunday celebrations is the one hosted by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence at Dolores Park: Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary competitions.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a self-proclaimed “21st century Order of Nuns” and nonprofit organization dedicated to the community. Since 1979, when they appeared in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, they haven’t stopped rocking! Over the decades, the Sisters have raised millions of dollars for various local community causes.
