A senior housing referral service, SeniorAdvice.com, has compiled a listing of what it considers to be the top 15 US cities for LGBT seniors.

The list is topped by the Texas capital city, Austin. Although the state is not known for being one of the more LGBT-friendly ones in the US, the study points to the Austin’s warm climate and affordable living compared to east and west coast gay hotspots such as New York and San Francisco (which came in at number 14).

It says Austin is also ‘a political hub for LGBT advocacy’, and is a liberal and progressive city where more than 5% of the population identify as gay.

It also has a thriving social environment for LGBTI citizens and ‘strong support for gay-owned businesses,’ with its own LGBT Chamber of Commerce.
