Paradise nightclub in Asbury Park re-energized after post-Sandy makeover

Hurricane Sandy literally blew the roof off the Empress Hotel in Asbury Park, home of the alternative lifestyle dance spot, the Paradise nightclub. The complex has been revamped and upgraded for summer, with a new dance floor, video displays and laser lights.

Although the club is geared toward the gay community, the crowd is eclectic, not limited by sexual orientation or age. Last Friday, a troupe of male go-go dancers rocked out in the main room to celebrate manager Joseph “Jojo” Crisci’s birthday. Meanwhile, there was a revue in the lounge featuring such transgender divas as Kristy Blaze of Newark.
