Provincetown Visitor Services Board: We're as gay as ever

The Visitor Services Board is worried that the outside world thinks Provincetown is becoming less gay.

At the board’s meeting on Tuesday, member Cathy Nagorski said something needed to be done to respond to “the slander” about Provincetown “losing its gayness.” She was referring to an essay by Irene Monroe titled “Is the Provincetown Carnival Losing Its Queerness?” and published on the website of public radio station WGBH in Boston on Aug. 27. It was reprinted by the Advocate, the L.A. Progressive, the Cambridge Chronicle and other newspapers.

Monroe describes herself on her own website as a pastor, a Huffington Post blogger, and a “syndicated queer religion columinist” [sic] who lives in Cambridge. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and Union Theological Seminary and a doctoral candidate at Harvard Divinity School.
