Six ways Palm Springs will change in 2015

Things in Palm Springs seem to continuously be in flux, and in 12 months the city will be a notably different place than it is right now in the final week of 2014.

Here are some of the biggest things expected to alter how Palm Springs looks, feels and runs in 2015. Of course the year will have its share of surprises, and this list is only a starting point. If there are other changes you’re getting ready for, tell us in the comments.

Major hotels will rise and fall in the coming year, significantly altering the look of downtown Palm Springs. The 155-room Kimpton hotel and the neighboring 135-room Marriott will rise from the present dirt lot along Palm Canyon Drive in advance of their openings sometime after 2015. A block away, the demolition of the Spa Resort hotel is progressing. The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, which operates the hotel and adjacent casino, has been tight-lipped about future plans for the site, so it will be interesting to see what new details emerge after the new year.
