Annual Christmas Crossing of the Delaware

On Christmas Day, the banks of the Delaware River in Bucks County, near New Hope, welcome crowds to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 river crossing, an act that changed the course of history.

See the spot where, on Christmas Night in 1776, General Washington’s boats quietly took the soldiers to the battles of Trenton and Princeton, listen to an inspiring speech by Washington and see rowers cross the river in three replica Durham boats and the battoeau Moon, a small river boat.

Tip: Bundle up and bring a thermos of something warm to drink; the wind coming off the river can be icy!
