Mardi Gras has always had a gay side, and few organizations celebrate it quite like the Krewe of Armeinius. Founded in 1968, New Orleans’ largest gay krewe has spent decades preserving the art, spectacle, and wonderfully outrageous traditions of gay Carnival.
The annual Krewe of Armeinius Ball is a theatrical celebration of elaborate handmade costumes, satire, and Carnival royalty. Expect towering creations, dramatic presentations, and enough creativity to make an ordinary costume party look positively underdressed.
It’s a chance to experience a distinctive piece of LGBTQ+ history while enjoying one of New Orleans’ most colorful traditions. Because sometimes a simple mask just won’t do.
