Some people go to Mardi Gras for the beads. The gays have bigger things in mind.
For more than 60 years, the Bourbon Street Awards have turned the French Quarter into one of America’s most outrageous costume competitions. Think towering headdresses, barely-there leather, gravity-defying drag, and ensembles that probably require their own luggage allowance.
Held on Fat Tuesday in the heart of gay New Orleans, the free spectacle crowns winners in Best Drag, Best Leather, Best Group, and Best of Show. Come dressed to compete or simply enjoy the view.
And remember, there’s a difference between showing up in costume and showing everyone up.
