American Pride: San Francisco – Leave Your Heart Here

Some call it the San Francisco Bay Area, while many of those of the pink persuasion call it the San Francisco Gay Area. The gay roots of Pride might be based in New York, but San Francisco remains a pivotal city in the global fight for LGBT equality.

From the birth of the Castro District after World War II when gay Pacific Theatre troops came back stateside and stayed there to build new lives, to the election of Harvey Milk, to same-sex weddings on the steps of the iconic City Hall, few cities rival its LGBT resume.
