New businesses bring colorful pop to Provincetown

The annual restaurant and retail shop shuffle this year includes a new Mexican restaurant, three new retail shops and a one-season “pop-up.”

With about 103 retail stores and 63 restaurants, the commercial strip is ever changing, though so far this year there are fewer new businesses than usual, said Licensing Agent Aaron Hobart.

Tracy Kachtick-Anders will open her new “pop-up” retail store, the Joy Project, at 246B Commercial St., the former home of Galadriel’s Mirror. The store will offer a variety of local items including paintings, jewelry, driftwood sculpture, pillows and home goods, leather pieces, T-shirts, soaps and beads from Africa and Italy. Artists who will be found at the Joy Project include Timmer Naylor, Gail Morrison, KD Mernin and Florence Mauclere of Twigs and Bones.
