Providence Named Top City in America by Travel + Leisure

arcadeinterior.JPGIf you know Providence, you know what a great city it is, winning a variety of awards from many travel publications. Now the city is number one in the Travel + Leisure 2014 America’s Favorite Places survey, marking the first time the city has been the top vote getter from the magazine. The eighth edition of the ranking includes 38 American cities and Providence was the only East Coast one to place in the top five, beating out Houston, Kansas City, Minneapolis/St. Paul and LA for the top slot.

An accompanying story running with the survey results in the magazine’s November issue describes Providence as having a bit of everything, such as a great food and bar scene, curb appeal and charm, and how the city has gone from “seedy to hip.” The article also cites The Arcade Providence, The Dean Hotel, Providence Walks, The East Side Walking Tours, as well as notable bars and restaurants, as trendy new developments. The survey also ranked Providence as Best City for Bakeries and Best City for Diners, and second-place as one of the country’s best cities for notable restaurants, gay-friendly vacations, hip/cool people, art scene, street food/food trucks, pizza, and sandwiches.
