San Francisco vs. New York: Grindr edition

20140205-125944.jpgLike many gay men (including the fictional ones on “Looking“) I occasionally kill time and meet people on the social app Grindr. Sure, Grindr is mainly considered a “hookup” app, but it can also be used for making friends, finding prospective dates and for getting to know the lay of the land if you’re new to a particular area.

This week, as I cover New York Fashion Week for Style, I did a little experiment during my first hours in Brooklyn. I logged into Grindr and waited to see how I fared on the market in NY and how the responses and interactions differed from San Francisco. The results were surprising.
