Wicked Manors

Events in

October 31

You know the stereotype. Let’s be honest, we would not change it for the world. For many of us, Halloween is basically Gay Christmas. It’s the one night when drag curiosity is not only accepted but encouraged. Costumes move quickly from ambitious to architectural. Somewhere between the third outfit change and the fourth glitter application, we collectively outdo 19-year-old sorority girls at their own game.

If that sounds like your kind of holiday, Wicked Manors belongs on your calendar.

Held every October in Wilton Manors, the LGBTQ+ enclave just ten minutes north of Fort Lauderdale, Wicked Manorstakes that creative chaos and turns it up to eleven. For one night, the city shuts down roughly nine blocks of Wilton Drive. As a result, the main strip becomes a massive outdoor playground for tens of thousands of revelers. Crowd estimates regularly reach around 30,000 attendees, and yes, most are family, or at least family-adjacent.

However, there is one thing to know before you arrive. The costumes are not casual.

At Wicked Manors, dressing up is not optional. Instead, it feels like a competitive sport. Roughly three-quarters of the crowd arrives in full costume. You’ll see high-concept drag, deep-cut pop-culture references, and looks that rely on little more than confidence, a jockstrap, and a generous amount of body glitter. Creativity reigns here. Subtlety does not.

That said, Wicked Manors is more than a costume parade. It functions as a full-scale community celebration. Multiple stages feature DJs, live music, and drag performances throughout the night. Meanwhile, Wilton Drive becomes a runway, a dance floor, and a social hub all at once. People come to be seen, to reconnect, and to celebrate queer joy without apology.

Importantly, the setting shapes the experience. Wilton Manors is already one of South Florida’s most LGBTQ+-centric cities. Because of this, Wicked Manors feels less like a corporate event and more like a neighborhood block party taken to epic proportions. Local businesses, residents, and organizations all participate.

Ultimately, Wicked Manors stands out because it fully embraces camp, excess, and community. It’s loud. It’s over-the-top. And it’s exactly where you need to be in October. If Gay Christmas had a street festival, this would be the North Pole.
