March 13 - March 15
Listen up, queens and geeks. If you think the only drama in Washington, D.C. happens on Capitol Hill, think again. Awesome Con proves that fandom energy belongs everywhere, including the nation’s capital.
Held each spring at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Awesome Con is D.C.’s massive celebration of geek culture. More than 70,000 fans attend each year. Comics, movies, television, toys, gaming, and pop culture all take center stage.
The show floor is a spectacle on its own. Cosplay is everywhere. Collectibles fill every aisle. People show up ready to be seen and appreciated. Whether you’re hunting for rare merch or admiring the craftsmanship on display, the energy is undeniable.
At its core, Awesome Con is about community. Panels run all weekend. Topics range from game design to inclusive storytelling. Autograph sessions and photo ops give fans the chance to meet creators and stars they’ve followed for years. Artist alleys highlight both established names and emerging talent.
One of the most important spaces is Pride Alley. This dedicated section of the show floor centers LGBTQ+ artists, writers, and makers. It’s a place to discover queer voices. It’s also a place to support independent work. Most importantly, it reflects a queer geek community that has always existed.
Beyond the main floor, the weekend offers even more ways to connect. Cosplay contests bring the drama. Gaming lounges invite participation. Fan meet-ups help people find their niche.
Located in the heart of the city and easily accessible by Metro, Awesome Con draws visitors from across the region and beyond. Whether you’re deeply embedded in fandom or just curious, this convention offers a welcoming and high-energy experience. It’s a celebration of creativity, passion, and pop culture at its best.
