President’s Day: Any Excuse for a Long Weekend, Right?

Travel Tips | Jim Werner | February 6, 2023

February 20th is not just a Monday that you can recover from a Sunday funday without co-workers asking for reports or help on projects, it’s the one day that you can honor the top job in America and the men that held the office that actually made America great.

Most cities know that you most likely have the day off, so the gayborhoods are filling the weekend with fun activities to make sure that we can have our fun despite nightmarish politics. Check some of these out:

Miami

South Beach heats up with go-go boys at Twist or spa days at the Standard, but beach days and poolside cocktails might be on any agenda with hip pools all over town with The W and SLS keeping the scene going. The weekend is host to the Coconut Grove Arts Festival if you want to explore local creatives and score some unique pieces.

Las Vegas

Head to the desert for steamy days and potentially hotter nights in Sin City. The Cosmopolitan hosts daily pool parties, The Bellagio’s poolside mojitos are top-notch and Cirque du Soleil shows off their talent in over 15 hotels on the strip. From roller coasters at New York, New York to an all new X Scream at Stratosphere, Vegas can almost guarantee a memorable (or not so memorable) trip.

Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C. does offer a fun weekend getaway to experience our nation’s capital. Visiting the epicenter of all things politics might be fun before any other more major changes are about to take place. Soak up the culture in any one of the 19 museums of the Smithsonian for culture and education. No alternative facts here!

If you just need to get out of the mess of the city, Dupont Circle is not the central gay area it used to be, but there are plenty of boys wandering around during the day and partying at Trade or JR.’s.

Austin

Let’s just say you want to relax and forget out the world, Austin, Texas is a perfect place to stay weird and enjoy home cooked Bb-q or Tex-Mex. Iron Works BBQ is close to the city center so after a trip to the capitol, get your smoked meat fix.

Cross the bridge for Guerro’s and their delicious tacos or some of the original mix-in ice cream at Amy’s. Yeah, this is a foodie city.

Filling your belly can only mean that you’ll last longer on 4th Street for dance tunes or live music. Just don’t limit yourself to these outposts since there is live music going on all over town.
