Presidents’ Day: Any Excuse for a Long Weekend, Right?

Travel Tips | Jim Werner | February 10, 2024

February 19th is not just a Monday that you can recover from a Sunday funday without co-workers asking for reports or help on projects. It’s the one day that you can honor the top job in America and the men that held the office that actually made America great by getting away. So, don’t forget to plan your Presidents’ Day weekend getaway!

Most cities know that you most likely have the day off, so the gayborhoods are filling the weekend with fun activities to make sure that we can have our fun despite nightmarish politics.

Presidents’ Day Weekend Getaways

Miami

The South Beach scene is sizzling with go-go boys at Twist or spa days at the Standard. Of course, beach days and poolside cocktails are a must with hip pools all over town. The W and SLS know how to keep the scene going. And if you’re up for exploring local creatives and scoring unique pieces, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival is the place to be.

Las Vegas

Head to the desert for steamy days and potentially hotter nights in Sin City. The Cosmopolitan hosts daily pool parties, The Bellagio’s poolside mojitos are top-notch and Cirque du Soleil shows off their talent in over 15 hotels on the strip. From roller coasters at New York, New York to an all new X Scream at Stratosphere, Vegas can almost guarantee a memorable (or not so memorable) trip.

Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C. does offer a fun weekend getaway to experience our nation’s capital. Visiting the epicenter of all things politics might be fun before any other more major changes are about to take place. Soak up the culture in any one of the 19 museums of the Smithsonian for culture and education. No alternative facts here!

If you just need to get out of the mess of the city, Dupont Circle is not the central gay area it used to be, but there are plenty of boys wandering around during the day and partying at Trade or JR.’s.

Austin

Let’s just say you want to relax and forget out the world, Austin, Texas is a perfect place to stay weird and enjoy home cooked Bb-q or Tex-Mex. Iron Works BBQ is close to the city center so after a trip to the capitol, get your smoked meat fix.

Cross the bridge for Guerro’s and their delicious tacos or some of the original mix-in ice cream at Amy’s. Yeah, this is a foodie city.

Filling your belly can only mean that you’ll last longer on 4th Street for dance tunes or live music. Just don’t limit yourself to these outposts since there is live music going on all over town.

So, whether you’re sizzling in Miami, hitting jackpot in Vegas, politicking in DC, or keeping it weird in Austin, make George and Abe proud by living your best life this long weekend.

And remember, booking your Presidents’ Day weekend getaway is as easy as denying that extra slice of birthday cake at the office party (come on, we all do it). Click this “Book Now” button faster than you can say “cherry tree” and score yourself a legendary Presidents’ Day escape. After all, who said celebrating our forefathers couldn’t come with a side of fabulous?
