Leap Into the Rainbow: A Trip Through Gay America

Travel Tips | Jim Werner | February 29, 2024

Just when you thought 2024 couldn’t get any extra, it throws in a whole extra day for the taking — yes, that’s right, it’s a leap year!

Odds are, you’re spending today scrolling through a slew of “Leap Day”-themed articles. Sorry to add to the pile, but at least we’ll keep ours short and sweet with a quick hit of travel inspiration.

Here’s LEAP DAY as an acronym, combined with gay-friendly daydream-worthy destinations for filling the minutes of this extra, 366th day:

L is for Los Angeles, where ‘fabulous’ is the baseline.

E is for Eureka Springs, where you find the peaceful coexistence of faith and queer life.

A is for Austin, where they keep it weird.

P is for P-Town, where there are so many rainbows you’ll think you’re in a Skittles commercial

D is for Denver, where you can literally see rainbows in the mountains.

A is for Asbury Park, where every day is gym, tan, laundry day.

Y is for Ybor City, where it’s so queer that you’re more likely to call it GaYbor City, amirite?

In the grand scheme of things, an ‘extra day’ might seem like nothing, but for travelers, it represents an additional 24 hours to plan that next trip. Enjoy!
