Travel Tips | Jim Werner | November 30, 2023

Say goodbye to the days of Christmas trees decked out with strands of popcorn and cranberries or even homemade decorations. Cities around the country have really upped their game when it comes to decorating their grand Tannenbaums. With many cities featuring Christmas tree displays that are completely bedazzled from top to bottom, like a queen ready to perform on RuPauls Drag Race Season 16.

If you’re one up for a road trip to ooh and ahh at Christmas tree displays, get ready because we have the list of places for you to check out the razzle-dazzle.

Cities with that special sparkle:

New York City

New York City takes the crown for having some of the most extravagant Christmas trees in the country. From the iconic Rockefeller Center tree towering over 75 feet tall and covered in thousands of twinkling lights, to the luxurious Swarovski crystal tree at the Lotte Palace Hotel, there’s no shortage of bling in the Big Apple.

San Francisco

San Francisco may not be known for its snow, but that doesn’t stop the city from going all out with their Christmas trees. The Union Square tree features over 33,000 LED lights and a stunning 3D light show, while the Fairmont Hotel boasts an impressive two-story gingerbread house and a sparkling tree in its grand lobby.

Washington D.C.

The nation’s capital pulls out all the stops when it comes to Christmas trees. The National Christmas Tree on the White House lawn is always a showstopper, but be sure to also check out the gorgeous tree at CityCenterDC, which features over 200,000 twinkling lights and stunning crystal ornaments.

Los Angeles

In true Hollywood fashion, Los Angeles goes all out when it comes to Christmas trees. The most famous being the behemoth tree at The Grove shopping center. This tree stands at a whopping 100 feet tall and adorned with over 15,000 sparkling lights. It’s truly a sight to behold.

Chicago

Known for its stunning architecture, it’s no surprise that Chicago boasts some of the most impressive Christmas trees in the country. The iconic Millennium Park tree stands at 55 feet tall and is decorated with over 48,000 lights. While the City Hall tree features a unique display of dazzling snowflakes.

Boston

In Boston, the Boston Commons tree, a gift from Nova Scotia, takes center stage. Stretching skywards with its impressive height and glowing with thousands of brilliant lights — a heartwarming symbol of friendship between nations. Be sure to take a stroll down the historic Freedom Trail. Here, smaller trees sparkle with twinkling lights, adding holiday magic to the city.

Bethlehem (PA)

It’s not just the big cities that know how to deck the halls. Many small towns in America go all out with their Christmas tree displays, creating a charming and cozy atmosphere. And in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania — roughly 1 hour north of Philly — the town’s namesake is celebrated with a giant 35-foot Moravian star Christmas tree.

No matter where you are in America, chances are there’s a dazzling Christmas tree waiting to be admired and enjoyed. So bundle up, grab a cup of hot cocoa, and take in the beauty of these stunning holiday displays. Happy holidays!
